Ghost Fox Winery
Due to the lovely weather on Valentine’s Day, we chose to skip the restaurant scene and embark on a road trip to Ghost Fox Winery in Nicholasville, KY. As our final destination on the Jessamine Wine and Spirits Trail, Ghost Fox was perfect for completing our adventure.
Opened in 2023 on longtime vineyard site, Ghost Fox derives its name from a supernatural figure in Japanese folklore. This award-winning winery is renowned for its small-batch varietals, including Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet, Riesling, and even a unique spicy cucumber wine.
Upon entering, we received a warm welcome and were invited to choose our seating. We had several options: a modern yet cozy area in front of the fireplace, comfortable spots at the bar, tables in the main bar space, or an adjacent event area.
I opted for a table in the main bar area, believing it would better suit a wine tasting experience. For my tasting flight, I selected three reds: Old Vine Zinfandel, Cabernet, and Merlot.
Additionally, they offered a Valentine’s Day charcuterie special that complemented the wine beautifully.
The wines were outstanding. I relished every sip and opted for a glass of Merlot to complement our charcuterie. We struck up a conversation with a couple from Michigan, who were seeking respite from the snow. They also enjoyed the wine selections and decided to purchase a few bottles to enjoy back home.
While we savored our wine, the owner, Mallory, came over to say hello. She kindly offered us a sample of their Ice Wine, a delightful sweet dessert wine made from grapes that freeze naturally on the vine, enhancing both the sugar and acidity. Although it was quite sweet, I could easily envision savoring it chilled on a warm summer day.
As our tasting came to an end, I chose a bottle of Merlot to take with me, which I am currently enjoying as I write this. We had a wonderful experience and plan to return in the future with friends. Ghost Fox is a fantastic way to spend a Sunday afternoon or attend one of their hosted events throughout the week.
